Esterification

Reaction of obtaining an ester from a carboxylic acid and an alcohol. It is carried out in the presence of an acid catalyst. It is a reaction of substitution of the hydroxyl group by the alkoxyl group, with removal of one molecule of water. The reaction is reversible, that is, the ester can be hydrolysed to re-obtain the acid and alcohol.
